New York 2020
Remember travelling without CDC protocols? Remember when planes felt just the slightest bit less like a petri dish of germs? Remember when you took the availability of toilet paper for granted?
I ‘memba. It was late January 2020 and New York was buzzing with its usual character and pizazz, but also because of the Chinese New Year and the annual Baseball Writers’ Association of America dinner.
There was no need for masks or six feet of distance between me and the other audience members on my first trip to Broadway. I had taken over a week off from work for what I envisioned being the first of many trips for the year.
Narrator: But there would be no more trips in that year
When our plane landed back home, service returned to passengers’ phones as news of Kobe Bryant and his daughter’s death was breaking. The year would continue on a emotional decline as Covid-19 began its devastation upon the world, leading to loss of epic proportions. Now, almost a year later, the pandemic continues taking a toll in the US as many choose to disregard simple safety protocols like wearing a mask.
My husband and I got married in the Spring of 2019 and really wanted to make this year a time to travel, but I’m just thankful to be safe and healthy together, even if it’s from the comfort of our couch every night for the time being.
