The Great White Hype
The Pantone Color of 2026 is ‘Cloud Dancer’
Oh, Peter. I absolutely love what you’ve done with the place. It’s so sterile, so, so bland, so wonderful.
Bringing Down The House (2003)
In the biggest “read the room moment” of 2025, Pantone, the American appointed color naming company, chose “a lofty white that serves as a symbol of calming influence in a society rediscovering the value of quiet reflection”.

I would argue that the vast majority is angrily reflecting on our own government actively working to strip constitutional rights away, while loved ones and friends are being kidnapped, held prisoner in modern day concentration camps.
The color choice has received expected backlash, and this was only about a month before the Vice President of the United States let white folks know, “you don’t have to apologize for being white anymore.” That’s been a thing? I do not remember anyone asking for or receiving any self-serving apologies. We want reparations.
I suppose the neutral color is apropos to the neutral stance so many of our state representatives have taken in favor of payouts. If colors hold power, we are probably closer to a kaleidoscope array of colors right now.

Pantone’s choice may seem innocuous, but if you have ever seen the 1988 cult classic, They Live, then you are aware that humans were being manipulated to consume, breed, and conform to the status quo via subliminal messages in mass media.
Alternatively, Etsy’s 2026 Color of the Year is, “patina blue: Inspired by weathered metals and ocean-worn hues, patina blue adds instant depth and serenity.” Now this is a color and breakdown I can get behind as it puts focus on oceans and the environment and opens the door to discussions regarding the effect of climate change. Additionally, Etsy’s focus on small businesses and personal storefronts helps foster community identity.
